ACCR Czech Team drivers Dominik Brož and Filip Mareš continued to build their experience in the FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship with mixed results on Rally Islas Canarias.
While Brož battled to the finish in seventh place, Mareš was out of luck when a mechanical failure stopped him two stages from home when on course for fourth in class and his 18th consecutive finish.
“It was another new experience for us,” said Mareš. “Despite the fact we did a lot of events on Tarmac, Canarias was completely different. The Tarmac is very specific and I cannot compare it to any other event I did before. During the race we were gaining more confidence and I was satisfied with our progress. Unfortunately, close to the end of the rally, our Peugeot had a technical problem. We don’t exactly know what was the problem but the car suddenly stopped. It was very sad, it was our first retirement after 17 events in a row. But that is rally.”
Brož added: “It was a big learning for me with more experience over the week. I am very happy we finish and the car is complete. We had a problem with the engine on Friday with the revs going up and down but it was okay after we reset everything. It was a big learning for me and I got more experience over the week. I am very happy we finish and the car is complete.”
As well as competing in ERC Junior Under 27, Brož and Mareš have enrolled onto the ERC Junior Experience training programme for 2017.
